E-LEARNING COURSES

In June 2020, Thandeka Vocational Education Trust (Pty) Ltd launched its first accredited skills programme to be presented entirely on an e-learning platform. The Team Leader E-learning course which consists of 5 credit-bearing unit standards at NQF level 3 and 4 was piloted with a group of 18 learners during June to December 2020. The pilot group completed the E-Learning course with great success!

TARGET AUDIENCE

First Line Supervisors – Team Leaders – Set Leaders and Individuals earmarked for development within this occupational band.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic Computer Literacy Skills are essential since this is a digital course which is accessed via an online platform
  • Some relevant workplace experience in supervising and or leading people would be advantageous
  • Access to a laptop or computer would be preferable. Though where access to a laptop or computer is not possible, access to a smartphone device would be essential
  • Access to the internet – WiFi – data is critical
  • Reading and writing skills are vital. It is therefore assumed that learners should be competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3 (Grade 11)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This digital – online Team Leader Skills Programme is geared toward the development of First Line Supervisors and or Team Leaders, Set Leaders as well as individuals who are earmarked for development as Team Leaders. The Programme is designed to equip learners with a range of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes related to Planning, Organising, Leading and Controlling. The programme scope covers four key areas, namely Leadership, Self-Management, People Management and Management Practices.

The E-Learning course is aimed at developing the team leading skills of team leaders, supervisors, and junior management. Each unit standard comprises 4-5 modules, the content of which are presented to the programme participants through video clips, downloadable documents, multiple choice quizzes, and formative activities. 

Topics covered in the E-learning course include:

  • Prioritise time and work for self and team
  • Apply knowledge of self and team in order to develop a plan to enhance team performance 
  • Identify responsibilities of a team leader in ensuring that the organisational standards are met 
  • Motivate and Build a Team 
  • Describe and apply the management functions of an organisation

A summative assessment is conducted at the end of each unit standard during a compulsory contact session.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  1. Identify responsibilities of a team leader in ensuring that organisational standards are met
  2. Explain the importance of Motivating and Building a Team
  3. Prioritise time and work for self and team by creating, prioritising, implementing and maintaining personal and team task lists
  4. Describe and apply the management functions of planning, organising, leading, controlling, decision making and problem solving within an organization
  5. Use a variety of strategies to deal with workplace conflict & Apply knowledge of self and team in order to develop a plan to enhance team performance
