I AM EMPOWERED is a Not-for-Profit Company that was established to equip previously disadvantaged and disabled youth to become employable and economically active citizens.
Post COVID19 Lockdown, we noticed a huge need for creating employment given the devastating effects of the Lockdown on our economy and the major job losses. In August 2020, we started an incubator project in partnership with Thandeka Vocational Education Trust (Pty) Ltd and we were able to place Learners into employment through the creation of a manufacturing line. In 2020, we manufactured in excess of 10 000 basic t-shirts for a major retailer.
By providing work experience to previously disadvantaged and disabled youth who are currently enrolled on a clothing manufacturing learnership or have recently graduated from the learnership, the incubator provides a safe space to these learners to establish themselves as qualified and experienced machinists. Having been trained by Thandeka Vocational Education Trust (Pty) Ltd, the learners’ capabilities encompass both the necessary knowledge and practical skills to produce a range of products that meet the stringent quality requirements of the customer.
With the experienced staff employed by both I AM EMPOWERED, and Thandeka Vocational Education Trust (Pty) Ltd, the incubator is able to manufacture a range of basic product types that meet both quality and quantity requirements at a competitive cost. Our team plays a dual role in ensuring that the incubator can sustain itself by producing quality products on time and in full.
We would like to call on our industry partners to consider placing any basic manufacturing orders with I AM EMPOWERED in order to allow for the incubator to grow and meet the mandate of creating sustainable futures for our previously disadvantaged and disabled youth.
